Introduction
For this project, we manufactured a custom box for a record label that needed a recognisable visual element it could use repeatedly at its parties.
The idea was to take its logo off the screen and turn it into a physical object with a presence of its own. The box needed to make the label’s identity easy to recognise within an event setting, using the contrast between the dark front panel and the illuminated logo.
Turning a logo into a physical element for events
When a brand uses the same element at different parties, simply placing the logo on any surface is not enough. The piece has to work within the space and remain recognisable when the lighting, viewing distance or location changes.
In this case, the solution was to manufacture a box in which the logo itself forms the illuminated area on the front. With the light off, it maintains a discreet look; when switched on, the symbol stands out clearly against the black background.
It is an interesting application of our CO₂ cutting and engraving service: the cutting is not simply used to create a decorative shape, but to transform a graphic identity into a functional piece intended for real use.
Preparing the design so the logo works when illuminated
One of the important aspects of a job like this is correctly translating the graphic design into a manufacturable piece. A logo that works perfectly in print or on a screen cannot always be transferred directly to a cut component.
Its proportions have to be preserved while also checking that the different areas can be manufactured without losing important parts of the design. This becomes even more important when light needs to pass through specific areas while the rest of the front panel remains dark.
The image of the finished result shows exactly this effect: the main shapes of the logo are clearly defined by the lighting and remain legible even though the design consists of different strokes and internal spaces.
A piece designed to be used at more than one party
The goal was not to make a decoration for one-time use. The box was created as an identifying element that the label could take to its parties and reuse on different occasions.
This changes the way the project is approached. When a piece is going to form part of different setups, it makes sense to think of it as an independent object rather than simply as decoration integrated into a single space.
For a brand connected with music or events, having its own physical element also helps maintain a recognisable image across different parties. The audience may be in a different venue or setup, but they still see the same brand symbol.
What can be applied to similar projects
This type of fabrication does not have to be limited to a record label. The same approach can be useful for DJs, promoters, companies, venues or brands that need to turn their graphic identity into a physical element for events.
The important thing is to study each design before manufacturing. The shape of the logo, final size of the piece, areas that need to be illuminated and the place where it will be used all affect how the front panel should be prepared and how the assembly should be built.
That is why it is preferable to start with the original logo file whenever possible. A vector file allows the shapes to be handled more precisely and the design to be prepared for cutting without relying on a low-resolution image.
Custom fabrication for brands and events from Girona
At Vanco Studio, we work from L’Estartit, Girona, manufacturing custom pieces for local projects in Girona and the Costa Brava as well as for customers in other parts of Catalonia and Spain.
This box is a good example of how laser cutting can be used for more than a decorative piece: here it forms part of a solution designed to give a brand a physical presence and accompany it at its own events.
If you have a logo and want to turn it into a custom piece for parties, events or a branded space, you can send us the design and explain where and how you want to use it. From there, we can assess the best way to manufacture it.
