Introduction
In applied mechanics, many repairs require specific tools that are not always available on the market. In this case we show a clutch alignment tool for the D16W5 engine, manufactured using 3D printing. This part helps centre the clutch disc correctly during assembly, which is critical to ensure trouble-free assembly and optimal operation of the system.
At Vanco Studio we combine technical design and digital fabrication to produce this type of practical solution. Although this model was not originally designed by us, we adapted and manufactured it for people who need functional parts, providing precision and a professional finish from our workshop in Girona.
What an alignment tool is and what it is used for
The alignment tool is used during clutch assembly to ensure that the disc and pressure plate are correctly centred relative to the engine shaft. Without perfect centring, vibrations, slipping or gearbox engagement problems can arise when the assembly is fitted.
For the D16W5 engine, this tool facilitates a structural alignment that would otherwise be difficult to achieve using manual references. Because it is 3D printed, it is lightweight, reusable and can be adapted to the specific tolerances of the particular model.
3D printing: why it is an efficient technical solution
3D printing is an ideal tool for producing custom mechanical solutions like this because it allows us to:
- Create complex shapes that fit the component’s specific tolerances.
- Manufacture functional parts without the need for expensive industrial tooling.
In projects like this, the 3D file is carefully prepared from the technical design stage to ensure that dimensions and profiles match the original part exactly.
If you need us to adapt a design for a specific technical use, we offer technical graphic design for manufacturing, where we optimise your models for 3D printing, laser and other manufacturing processes.
Adapting and reusing existing models
This alignment file was not created from scratch by us. There are multiple models published online that can serve as references, and in many cases it makes no sense to “reinvent the wheel”. When we use an existing model, we always review it, correct possible errors, adjust tolerances and verify that the part meets the actual requirements of use before printing it.
This approach makes it possible to:
- Speed up the production process
- Ensure real compatibility with the original part
Thanks to the flexibility of 3D manufacturing, we can produce custom parts without depending on industrial production, reducing cost and time for small batches or prototypes.
Manufacturing from Girona for all of Spain
From our workshop in Girona, we carry out custom 3D printing projects for local customers on the Costa Brava as well as orders from all over Catalonia and the rest of Spain. If you have a specific need for a tool, functional part or prototype, we can help you produce it with suitable precision for professional use.
